The Lilylog

This little chick-a-dee, Lily May Sims was born by emergency caesarean section at 4.59pm on the 7th February 2013. Weighing just 2lb 7oz Lily at 30+1 weeks.  Lily was born with a medical condition called Meckles diverticulum ileal perforation which we have been told has nothing to so with her being premature.   In non-medical terms, part of Lily’s bowel had formed into a kind of “cul-de-sac” which meant that when she had a bowel movement the bowel became swollen and eventually perforated.  Lily had surgery to correct this on 9th February at St Mary’s hospital Manchester and has been re-cooperating ever since.  She wore a temporary stoma bag which stayed in place until she weighed enough and was well enough to have a second operation that  allowed the doctors to put her bowels back inside her  – where they well and truly belong!  The prognosis is entirely positive and thankfully there should be no long term effects.

The Lily log was started as a wat for me to externalise some of what has happened has happened in the early days since Lily’s birth and now beyond.  The initial aim is to provide people with regular updates as to how Lily was progressing and also to give me a place to dump the many emotions that having a premature baby  has sparked. I hope the log will  be informative and fun – I can guarantee that at times it will be soppy and emotional for which I make no apologies – please just skip the bits you don’t want to read.

Update : the settings on this account have recently been changed to make it a public account which means that all who want to can view the content and also to include some more recent pictures of Lily 6 years on 🙂

Hope you enjoy the log and watching our Lily-pad grow as much as us xx
